Prospective Observational Cohort Study of Patients With Metastatic HER-2+ Breast Cancer at Risk of Cardiac Toxicity

This study looks at how common heart problems are in people getting treatment for HER-2 positive breast cancer that has spread. The goal is to see if specific heart medications can help protect your heart from potential side effects during your cancer therapy.

You may be able to join if you have advanced HER-2 positive breast cancer and are currently receiving treatments like trastuzumab (Herceptin). This study is for people who are not taking a specific type of chemotherapy called anthracyclines.

Participants will be closely monitored for heart health while receiving their regular cancer treatments. You may be asked to take a medication called carvedilol to see if it helps protect your heart, or you may simply be observed while taking your existing heart-supportive medicine.

The study is currently recruiting new participants at various locations in Anchorage, Alaska. Because it is an observational study, it focuses on monitoring your health over time alongside your standard care.
