Intraoperative Quantification of Residual IDH1-mutant Tumor Cells Via Ultra-Rapid Droplet Digital PCR

What is this study?

This study is testing a new, super-fast lab technique to help surgeons identify leftover brain tumor cells during an operation. By detecting these specific tumor cells in real-time, the surgical team can be more precise about removing as much of the tumor as possible while you are still in the operating room.

Who can participate?

You may be eligible if you are 18 or older and are scheduled for brain surgery at NYU Langone Health to treat a glioma (a type of brain tumor) that has a specific genetic feature called an IDH mutation.

What will happen?

During your scheduled surgery, the medical team will take small tissue samples to analyze using a special device that looks for remaining tumor cells. If the test shows that tumor cells are still present, your surgeon will use that information to decide if they can remove more of the tumor right then and there.

The study takes place at NYU Langone Health in New York City. It is currently not yet recruiting participants, meaning it is still in the preparation stages.
